It does not count their children born in Australia, so the community is larger than this number.Speak Mandarin at home counts people of any birthplace. Mandarin is also spoken at home by people born in Taiwan, Malaysia, Singapore and Australia, so the Mandarin count is not a count of people born in China. Many people born in China speak Cantonese or another Chinese language at home instead.The ABS counts Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan as separate birthplaces. People born there are not in the "born in China" figures on this page. These are 2021 Census figures, now five years old. The community has likely grown since; we do not show growth because no newer count exists at this level.
