Did your school zone change for 2027?

We compared Victoria's official 2026 and 2027 school zone maps line by line. 31 government school zones changed: 25 primary zones and 6 Year 7 zones. The biggest change: Ballan and the towns around it move from the Bacchus Marsh College Year 7 zone to Daylesford Secondary College. One new school, Barramayil Primary School in Aintree, opens in 2027 with its own zone.

Most changes are in the growth areas of Melbourne's west, north and south-east. Every other zone in Victoria is exactly the same as in 2026.

How we made this

Zones. The Department of Education's official primary (Prep) and Year 7 zones for 2026 and for 2027, as published for Find My School. Each school's zone is all of its zone polygons for that year.

What counts as a change. We overlay the two years and find every piece of ground that was in one school's zone in 2026 and is in another school's zone (or no zone) in 2027. Pieces smaller than 1 hectare are left out; the files are identical for zones that did not change, so a smaller piece is a redrawn edge rather than a change a family would notice.

Suburbs. A suburb is listed against a change when it holds at least 1 hectare of the moved ground, or at least 10% of it (ABS Suburbs and Localities 2021 boundaries).

Checked. We checked every moved piece against the original 2026 and 2027 files, and the two headline changes against the Department's announcements: the new Aintree school zone and Ballan joining the Daylesford Secondary College zone.

What it cannot tell you. A zone guarantees a place; it is not the only way in, and schools can take students from outside their zone when they have room. The Department publishes its zones for enrolment decisions and says they should not be used for property purchase decisions. Always confirm an address with the school or Find My School before you enrol.

When do the 2027 school zones apply?

They apply to enrolments for the 2027 school year, including Prep and Year 7 places. The Department of Education published them on Find My School in March 2026. The 2026 zones still apply to any enrolment for the 2026 school year.

My address moved into a new zone. Do my children have to change school?

No. A zone decides who is guaranteed a place when a child enrols. Students already enrolled at a school keep their place. Ask the school how the change affects younger brothers and sisters before you decide anything.

The Department said 11 zones were adjusted. Why do you list more?

When the Department published the 2027 zones it named one new school zone and adjustments to 11 existing zones. We compare the two published maps line by line, so we also list the neighbouring zones that gained or lost ground as a result. Any piece of ground of 1 hectare or more that changed school is listed.

Do you cover New South Wales and Queensland?

Not yet. We hold only one year of the NSW and Queensland zone maps, so there is nothing to compare. We will add them when the next year is published.
